Thanks to a $ 15,000 Grant from the Community Foundation of St Joe Co. we should be able to contuniue with our Greenhouse Project. Of course we need to match those funds before we can use them. So If you are looking to donate nows the time ! If you are a Indiana resident or business and donate over $ 100 you may qualify for Indiana NAP credits.  Call, Text or e-mail  Sara for more information 574-315-4361 or [email protected] . The Greenhouse project is designed to help Unity Gardens grow a more sustainable local food system. The goals are to create a training center for those wanting to learn more about creating a self sustaining food source. It will act as a location to test ideas for growing smarter all year long. Some projects we will be working on include Aquaponics, Vermiculture, growing mushrooms, Indoor composting, solar power, and four season growing. As always it will also be a community meeting place and seed center for growing new ideas. We are just scratching the sur

The planting will begin this Saturday on Unity Gardens Native Planting Area at LaSalle Square. The project was started this spring but was scratched because of the hot dry weather. The plan developed by our intern Myles Robertson is partly research an partly developing a more sustainable garden by encouraging pollinators. The large 300' x 100' plot is divided into 50' x 50' plots. The plots will be planted in 4 different ways to see how the native plants grow in each of the 3 planting styles. The plots can be used by IUSB for research , and will also be used by Unity Gardens for education purposes.
All the seeds and supplies were donated, and the work will be done by volunteers.Supporters and donors for this project include The City of South Bend, Indiana University South Bend, Cardno/JFNew, and Jay Duley
Come watch us grow !!

You know when we say we love our community ? Well here is another good reason why. Cilantro Hair Spa came to us with a idea that they would partner with us to help raise funds for Unity Gardens in 2013 . We are in the process of coming up with unique ways to help you help us all while supporting a local business.
A little about Cilantro ...We are a high energy salon so be prepared for a fast paced environment, with designers who work hard to stay cutting edge. In summary, we look for products that best suit our mission of providing the
very best products that both perform and protect. They aren't a "spa" in the traditional sense...they integrate Science and Nature
to create and maintain healthy HAIR.  SPA=Renewal, thus, hair spa=renewal for
your hair.

Growing Hoop Goes Up Thanks to Kind Donors
Unity
Gardens needs your help!  We have had a great 2012 season!  In 2012 alone,we have moved into our own office and classroom, built a outdoor classroom at the LaSalle Square Unity Garden, helped support over 48 Unity Gardens, started extended season growing, hosted over 100 classes, held 14 Unity Gardens events,
and fed hundreds of families and children throughout our community! We have great plans for 2013 also! In order to keep "growing" we need community support!  Everyone can help in some way.  For those of you who are able, please consider donating to Unity Gardens!  Every amount helps. The Indiana NAP tax credits help make donating more fruitful.  50% of donations over $100 to Unity Gardens are eligible for Indiana tax credits.  That means donors receive half of their donation back on their tax refund or off of the taxes owed to the state!  This incentive is in addition to the usual federal deduction for charitable giving.Donations for the NAP program will help fund the Unity Garden greenhouse/ growing house, aquaponics, the summer kids club, and other educational programs designed to keep our community engaged in the garden year round.  Help us grow!  You may
