An Environmental Analysis of Food ProductionBy: Mary Devoe
The project works to quantify the environmental effects of the industrial food model by comparing the effects of different food choices, specifically what it means to eat seasonally and locally. This project accomplishes this by comparing apples, a food grown that can be grown locally and eaten in season and bananas, a food that must be shipped in from more tropical growing regions. By sharing this information with community members in a straightforward manner, it advertises the ecological benefits of a small-scale food model with the ultimate mission of spreading awareness of Unity Gardens' mission and increased participation in their model.
