Q: How does it work ? A: Volunteers plant the garden and care for it and folks from the community can come out to harvest. Q: Who can pick for free ? A: Anyone. The garden is about access to healthy, and bringing people together. Q: Do I have to work to pick for free? A: No Q: Are any gardens not open to harvest ? A: Yes there are a few exceptions. High risk areas like a prison would not be open to the public, but the food would be donated. Q: Are there any other exceptions to the totally open concept ? A: Yes at our LaSalle Square Garden we have a small urban farm area fenced in to grow food for market to raise money for supporting the open gardens. |
Garden Events and When To Harvest
We have several events each growing season. Also while harvest times are not an exact science we can try to give you an idea when things may be ready to harvest. Garden Guides During the peak season we are enlisting volunteer and paid guides in the garden during peak times to assist with harvesting and connecting to the community. |
